Pink Truth: The Mary Kay Interview: Sucking in New Victims

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

The Mary Kay Interview: Sucking in New Victims
Apr 30th 2012, 11:00
This is an interview technique promoted by Mary Kay nsd Kathy Helou. She calls it an "innerview," rather than an interview. The point is to get the woman to tell you her weaknesses so that you can use those to help recruit her. My comments are in bold: Begin with your brief 3-5 minute “I” [...]
Well at least Tracy took the time to add her own thoughts to this instead of just posting someone else's work and making some useless comment about how awful Mary Kay is.

However, there is nothing substantial to any of the comments she makes.  Comes off feeling very elementary school yard argument...

Kid 1 (Mary Kay) Here is a point.
Kid 2 (Tracy) WRONG!

Kid 1: Another point.
Kid 2: WRONG AGAIN!!

A Former Mary Kay Director's Story and Numbers

Written by GettingOutOfDebt Attention: Every person who wants to move up in Mary Kay- please read. If you're reading this as a consultant, please know that every word is true and meant to help you learn the other side of the MK story. I originally started in Mary Kay Cosmetics in April of 1991 in [...]
Is it possible?  Pink Truth posted a story by someone that claims to be enjoying and profiting from SELLING Mary Kay products?

Yes this is a sad story.  No, it doesn't prove anything. If anything, it demonstrates that you CAN make money selling Mary Kay.

Pink Truth: Mary Kay Inc. Will Sue You!

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Mary Kay Inc. Will Sue You!
Apr 26th 2012, 11:00
For a company that supposedly loves its beauty consultants, Mary Kay Cosmetics sure is in the business of suing sales force members. Recently I received a tip that Mary Kay Inc. sued Allison LaMarr and her company Driven, Inc. I promptly went to research the Dallas court records, and found not only the lawsuit against [...]
Pink Truth suggests that Mary Kay should not be allowed to defend their sales force --- I thought they were always complaining about how Mary Kay doesn't do anything when they know what is going on.

If anything, this article proves just how difficult it IS to do something.

Allison LaMarr: Fastest to Million, Fastest to Broke?
Apr 25th 2012, 11:00
Have you ever wondered what life is like at the top of Mary Kay? Look no further than the standout beauty consultant Allison LaMarr, who quickly rose to fame within Mary Kay, and was put on a pedestal by corporate and sales directors. We have documented on Pink Truth the meteoric rise of Allison LaMarr [...]
This is shameful and I don't recommend anyone read it.  In fact, I took down the link.

If you want to go read it, you know where to find it.  This is just Pink Truth (doing what they do best) spreading peoples personal information around and laughing at their failures.

Recently I received a tip that Mary Kay Inc. had sued Allison LaMarr and her company Driven, Inc. Pink Truth: Do Sales Directors Depend on Others For Their Income?

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Do Sales Directors Depend on Others For Their Income?
Apr 23rd 2012, 11:00
In Mary Kay, the pyramid-toppers want you to believe that you control your own income. That you don’t depend on others. If you want a raise, you just go out and get it for yourself. You, as a director, can control your income with the amount of activity you do. Nothing could be further from [...]
While there is some issue with assumptions in the Mary Kay document (particularly the $1,000 average order), Pink Truth is not proving anything other than the fact that they can say, "this proves nothing".

This is one of those documents that gives you a goal and some idea of how much work will be involved in making the kind of money you may (or may not) want to make as a director.

If you are putting yourself out there - warm chatting, holding classes, following up on leads (say 40 hours a week), I don't see how you would come up with any less than 5 new recruits/month.  Are you trying to talk 5 people into joining on the 28th of the month?  Than, yes, you will have issue(s) with that!  But if you are consistently offering information and following up on people that were interested, it seems that within a month or two, you should be able to rely on 5 new recruits/month.

Whether every director in America or none are actually doing it, has little to do with whether or not it is doable.

Pink Truth: Allison LaMarr Lies: “I would never leave the Mary Kay life.”

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Allison LaMarr Lies: "I would never leave the Mary Kay life."
Apr 21st 2012, 11:00
Back in May 2005, Allison LaMarr was flying high in Mary Kay Cosmetics. The company and its consultants couldn’t get enough of her, because her fast ascent to fame meant that anyone could do it. Allison was the NEW face of Mary Kay, and the company used her every chance they could get to prove [...]
Shame on you Pink Truth.  Is Allison culpable here? Yes, most likely.  Particularly if your facts are straight about her.  But::

1. She was 26 when she said she would never leave Mary Kay (if your numbers are right).  We are all a little flaky when we are young adults.  I can't imagine ever leaving the job I am in right now and I am 32.  Now I am not broadcasting that publicly as Allison did, but at the same time, I have told people that.  All the same, if an amazing job offer came along, or things changed at my current job, who knows?

There also is the concept of instilling confidence.  No good salesman is going to get up in front of other sales associates for his company and announce that he/she has his/her eye on the door.  The "extreme", "I'll never leave this company" stuff seems unnecessary and even fake, but the concept of pledging allegiance publicly to the place you are selling every day makes sense.

Agree or disagree with that last statement,

2. You are crucifying an entire organization on one young woman's extravagant behavior.  Yes, they supported her and hailed her as a miracle worker of sorts, but that does not mean they approve of any nefarious behavior she was engaged in, or, more importantly, that "everyone (in Mary Kay) is doing it" as you would have us believe.

Pink Truth: Expenses to Run a Mary Kay Business

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Expenses to Run a Mary Kay Business
Apr 20th 2012, 11:00
Have you ever wondered how much it reallycosts to run a Mary Kay business? Can it really be as simple as the 50% profit your recruiter raves about? No.

During the recruiting process, the profit to be made selling MK products is hyped up. You buy a product for $10 and sell it for $20, [...]
Typical Pink Truth complaint about spending money to make money.  It does bring out the point that if you do not watch your spending, you can eat up any profit that you would have very easily.  It is very important that you watch your spending and know where your money is going.

Don't delude yourself.  If you are not making money, you are not making money and you need to find something else to do.

Which makes me wonder about the ladies that spend a lot of time on Pink Truth... their certainly not making money there... but they seem to have plenty of time to spend "investing" in that project.  Just sayin'

Directors, You Are the 2% That Keeps Dreams Alive
Apr 19th 2012, 11:00
Another one of those nauseating emails circulating amongst Mary Kay sales directors.  Are you convinced about how fabulous being a director is? Well it is! Even when you and 98% of the other directors aren’t making a decent living! Don’t forget – God wants you to sell Mary Kay and recruit more victims.

Mary Kay Truth: One Obstacle to Recovery is Hope
Apr 18th 2012, 11:00
One morning, I heard this statement on a television talk show: “One obstacle to recovery is hope.” They went on to discuss how hope plays a part in people recovering from tragedies or moving forward in their lives. I thought it was very appropriate in relation to Mary Kay.

Several months ago, Raisinberry wrote an [...]
I am sure that Mary Kay wishes they had never written their recruiting stats because Tracy keeps repeating it.  (sarcasm intended)

If Mary Kay is upset at Tracy (and I am sure they are) it is because they have no way of forcing her to stop lying on the internet.

Just like she accuses Mary Kay of doing (sometimes accurately) she twists numbers in her favor and uses vague, poorly defined vocabulary to make Mary Kay look like a monster.

Overcoming Your Husband's Objections
Apr 17th 2012, 11:00
If your husband dares to question the Mary Kay opportunity, your recruiter wants you to be ready with these answers. Mary Kay doesn’t want something as silly as your husband’s logic to stand in the way of you purchasing inventory! I feel sorry for the husbands of Mary Kay consultants. Seriously. Very sorry. Why? Because [...]
Some good points are made by both sides on this one.  Both seem to be under the delusion that if you say something is a fact, it becomes one on the sheer merit of you saying it.

Steer clear of people (Mary Kay, Pink Truth, or otherwise) that expect you to believe something is a fact just because they say it is.

People Will Disappoint You, But Mary Kay Numbers Never Lie
Apr 16th 2012, 11:00
Another brilliant piece by a Mary Kay nsd. If you’re a director or you want to be a director, check out how pathetic the numbers are in Mary Kay. Wonder why? Because in pyramid schemes, almost everyone fails. It’s just plain math. There are too many people at the bottom of the pyramid for any [...]
I think Pink Truth thinks they are brilliant by posting this.

Problem is they have not yet proved that Mary Kay is a pyramid scheme.  And they will not, because it is not.  Like Mary Kay or dislike Mary Kay, it's all the same to me.  But saying that people are caught up in an illegal scam when they are actually involved in a legitimate business franchise is just wrong.  Hopefully for obvious reasons.

Pink Truth: Talking Mary Kay Consultants Out of Returning Inventory

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Talking Mary Kay Consultants Out of Returning Inventory
Apr 13th 2012, 11:00
Here’s a tried and true method of talking a consultant out of returning her inventory. We wouldn’t want her to do that! After all, the sales director will get a commission chargeback if the consultant returns her products. We are all well aware of Mary Kay’s 90% buyback policy, whereby an independent consultant or sales [...]
This is ridiculous... on Mary Kay's part.  Not sure where Pink Truth dug this gem up, but if it is genuine, it really does make Mary Kay look sleazy.  A good "watch out for this" warning.

If you are in Mary Kay and thinking about quitting and get this spiel, be ready... you may just need to say, "I'm sorry, i have no rational reason for this, but I am quitting.  (Keep in mind that by "rational reason", I mean rational to their "there is no rational reason to quit" mentality.)

Pink Truth: The Inventory Con Game in Mary Kay

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

The Inventory Con Game in Mary Kay
Apr 10th 2012, 11:00
Written by Anonymous Do you really need all that inventory? Do you really “profit” 50% on inventory you sell? No and no. But they sure make it sound good, don’t they? Now, Vice President of Legalized Larceny for Mary Kay, says, “Let’s Talk About The ‘Inventory’ Con Game”! Profit Margin Below is a quick table [...]
This anonymous post writer sure seems to know exactly what he/she is talking about.  Problem is, I can't follow his/her logic to save my life.

The one thing I do know after reading this article is that if it is as difficult to make money in Mary Kay as Pink Truth would like you to believe than all those people out there that are making money must be miracle workers!

Of particular note in the "let's be nasty and mean" department, this anonymous writer opines that the majority of Mary Kay recruits are "bored housewives, young women, and undereducated women".  Aside from denigrating those that stay home to take care of the family, those that are young and those that have not been to college, this certainly assaults the character of those in Mary Kay and (oops) those in Pink Truth.  Wonder why no one will call him/her out on that!?

Of particular note is the inventory discussion.  "No one will mind waiting 4-5 business days"?  In what world?  If I order something online, maybe.  Otherwise, the reason I DIDN'T order online is because I want it NOW.  Not saying that you need a house full of inventory, but having things on hand to hand to clients is beneficial.

The Mary Kay Way: Burn Those Bridges
Apr 9th 2012, 11:00
Written by SuzyQ

Burn those bridges, ladies!  It's the right thing to do!  Trust me!

Oh my.  Did anyone else hear those words in Mary Kay?  Of course you did, especially if you became one of the TOP TWO PERCENT IN THE ENTIRE WORLD (that would be a director, of course), or at least in [...]
I definitely feel like a broken record here.

1. Does Mary Kay really encourage people to give up their licenses and such?
2. Why does "SuzyQ" insist on continuing to presume that you will fail at Mary Kay?
3. If I were asking a boss or professional to take time away from my position with them to renew credentials that had nothing to do with the work I was doing for them, you can sure bet they would at the very least frown on it.  "Do you work for me or "xyz" is the first question that I hear being asked.  I am guessing that they would be pretty neutral to the idea overall - so long as it didn't take away from my commitment to them, but to say they would actively encourage me to maintain my credentials is more than 'pushing the truth'.

So, burn your bridges or don't.  Only YOU should be the one to decide whether to leave them up or shut them down.  Don't let Mary Kay or Pink Truth tell you what to do with your bridges.

Pink Truth

Joining Mary Kay: The Peril of Making a Snap Decision
Apr 6th 2012, 11:00
Written by DupedByPinkFriend Are you impulsive? Do you tend to make life-altering decisions on a whim, or are you the type to think things over before embracing a new venture? Do you think with your heart or with your head? Are you one to jump headfirst into a lake if you can't see the bottom, [...]
One thing I agree with in this post is that you should not make a snap decision about Mary Kay or any other endeavor.  You should find out what you are getting involved with until you fully understand the risk, the expectations, the requirements and what it will take for you to succeed according to YOUR definition of success.

What Pink Truth still does not seem to understand is that the "Pink Truth 'right way' of doing Mary Kay" is NOT the right way to do Mary Kay.  As is clear from this article, they seem to think that THEIR plan of churning through anything that breathes is "the Mary Kay Way" and the only way to succeed, while they continually point out that this method is doomed to failure.  They clearly did not try to do it the right way and refuse to acknowledge that anyone is doing it the right way and succeeding.

One commenter "MLM Radar Detector" says:

"
It bears repeating: In a real business the business owner recruits another team member because she has more customers than she can handle with her existing staff.
In Mary Kay the “business owner” recruits another team member because she doesn’t have enough customers and has run out of places to find them.
"

This assertion is only true in some businesses.  When a business hires SALES staff, it is to find customers it otherwise would not be able to reach.  Mary Kay recruits SALES staff for this purpose.  This is no different than any business finding ways to market their product.

Pink Truth: Anyone Can Succeed in Mary Kay

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Anyone Can Succeed in Mary Kay
Mar 31st 2012, 14:35
Recently a pro-Mary Kay woman attempted to post the following comment on this site: What does it matter how many people drive a pink Cadillac or how few people make alot of money? Most people in most businesses fail because of numerous reasons… Mainly they don't work hard enough. As long as the guidelines are [...]
This is so ridiculous on so many levels, I think I will just create a list:

1. Once again, using an extreme "pro" Mary Kay comment to make all "pro" Mary Kay people look ridiculous.
2. Breaking a world record and being a successful sales person are not the same thing.
3. The MLM model of constant recruiting does not apply to Mary Kay the way Tracy would like everyone to believe.  There is a product and people do like the product.  Pink Truth likes to (*lie) say that no one is buying the product.  They have no proof of this though and if you know someone that sells Mary Kay (really sells it, not trying to cheat their way to a paycheck) they can show you plenty of people that love it and buy it from them.
4. Tracy "demonstrates how little Caddy drivers make" by taking away $100K (of $150K) in irrational "expenses" and thus "proves" that they only make "beans" (50K).  This is NOT a strong arguments by any means.  But when she states it the way she does here, it sounds profound.
5. She naturally says that (#4) this proves how impossible it is for almost everyone.  But if #4 is not true then it proves nothing.  And that is the problem with Pink Truth.  Their "truth" is a shaky house of cards built entirely of lies and half-truths.
6. Still ranting about directors making middle management wages, but with Pink Truth's other favorite adage, "everyone cheats".  This is ridiculous on two levels.  1. If no one on Pink Truth is calling her out on this than either A. They did in fact, "all cheat", or B. Are fully aware of what I say on here all the time, "disagree with Tracy and risk expulsion from her secret club". 2. If everyone cheats, then Pink Truth has nothing to level against Mary Kay corporate (as they claim to be all about) because EVERYONE is breaking the rules.  If everyone were following Mary Kay's rules and not succeeding, than Tracy may have an argument.  But if her claim is that everyone is cheating, than what fault is it of Mary Kay corporate? 3. Not everyone cheats.  It has long been my suspicion that the majority of people on Pink Truth cheated or tried to 'work the system', and now blame everyone but themselves. This confirms my suspicion that much more.
7. "Almost no one will even turn a profit. That is the truth behind MLM."  Again, no proof - just a passionate statement that we are to believe at their word.
8. Then the minions come in with their praises of Tracy.  "Thank you SO much Tracy for these precious truths that you share with us".  (Cult much?)
