Mary Kay Directors and Ethics
Oct 29th 2012, 11:00
This message was recently posted by a sales director on a board for Mary Kay directors only: Anybody have a letter or email you send to a new DIQ’s team members?  I have a new DIQ with a very weak team and I really want to encourage them to rally behind her! Thanks! And the [...]
Aside from the fact that Tracy is stretching quite a bit and reading quite a bit into this situation (her own reader kind of calls her out on it), the questions are good questions and worthy of considering - assuming that her assumptions are accurate.

Pink Truth: Caption This Mary Kay Photo

This is one of my all-time favorite photos of a Mary Kay event. Leave your caption in the comments section!
Every time that Pink Truth does this (pick on a picture of Mary Kay), they demonstrate their lack of anything constructive to say.

This picture, as well as many before it, is just a picture of MK women having fun and breaking out of their "normal" comfort level (an important exercise for anyone engaging in sales).

I think what irritates me about Pink Truth doing this is that those are meant to be 'safe' environments where you can lighten up a little and have fun and NOT be made fun of.  It is somehow a violation to hear/see women teasing other women for letting down their guard for a few minutes and having fun.

If Pink Truth truly feels (as I know they do) that these women letting their guard down is detrimental, a word of warning is in order. But teasing and making insulting, injurious comments is unwarranted and sickening.

How Many Cons Can You Run Trying to Recruit Someone Into Mary Kay
Oct 26th 2012, 11:00
I got this email  and was amused at the variety of creepy/dishonest tactics this Mary Kay recruiter used to try to lure someone into Mary Kay. I sincerely want to thank Pink Truth from the bottom of my heart for the information posted on this website!  I am a Pink Truth success story.  My eyes were opened [...]
It will be interesting to see if anyone on Pink Truth asks this vivacious gal for proof of her $100k/year - $150/hr work at home, flexible hours job that has left her with credit card debt...

Just one of the holes in this story that jumps out at me.

Pink Truth: The Non-Retail “Direct Selling” Company

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

The Non-Retail "Direct Selling" Company
Oct 25th 2012, 11:00
Written by Robert FitzPatrick As market-based economies become the prevailing global model, millions of people are being exposed to sales promotions, income opportunity solicitations, and investment schemes with which they have no experience or knowledge. Vulnerability to deception and the need for consumer education correspondingly reach global heights. One especially dangerous deception is now luring [...]
We finally see where the 99% figure comes from.  Some observations.

1. This article itself suggests that 99% "will not see profit" which is different from "lose money" which is what Pink Truth often trumpets.
2. As applied to Mary Kay, (and II think most companies of this sort) is untrue or misleading.  There is no definition of "profit", but if we suggest that profit means more money coming in than going out, than even people with no one under them stand to see a profit (albeit a small one).
3. Even if the ones that have no one under them don't sell any of their product, but only use it themselves and pass it around to friends, they genuinely have not made a profit, but would not really be considered to have lost money either.  I don't suggest that most people who shop in a Best Buy lose money just because they left the store with less money than they had when they went in.  They have purchased products.  They have transacted business.  We don't call that losing money.

In other observations, he closes by saying that "cold facts" are what expose these so called pyramid schemes, but I don't see any cold facts in this article, only opinions, woefully lacking math skills and inaccurately drawn conclusions.

Pity.

Pink Truth: Little White Lies in Mary Kay

Pink Truth
Facts, opinions, and the real story behind Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Little White Lies in Mary Kay
Oct 24th 2012, 11:00
Written by Raisinberry Well I think I may have figured out why many of us lingered too long at the Mary Kay dance before coming to our senses. I have been thinking over this past year that I can't believe a woman like me, reasonably intelligent, would have fallen for the hype for so many [...]
Two things come to mind about this post that confused me to the point of making the entire thing seem pointless.

1.  "I am in my first year" when you have only done two or three classes is not a white lie.  It is not a lie at all.  It is true.  "Borrowing" someone else's "I-story" is lying.  I personally don't get the whole "white lie" concept.  Either you are telling the truth or you are not.
2. Did I miss where raisinberry explains why she lied?  I don't see it anywhere. This doesn't sound like a slow spiral downward, it sounds like someone who made a conscious decision to be dishonest.  Was she prompted to do so by someone she thought she could trust? Sounds like it.  Is it a problem that women in Mary Kay are encouraging this behavior?  Of course.  Does it in any way negate raisinberry's ability to be an adult woman and choose for herself?  In my opinion, no.

The rest of the post is unreadable for all the white noise surrounding these discrepancies.

Although I don't fully agree with the writer of this letter, I agree more with him/her than I do with the comments following the letter.  Particularly "jjenkins" who says, " I find it interesting that this inflammatory letter does nothing with argumentative writing and instead yells and tries to belittle people. If you are trying to prove a point, please support your points with facts and persuasive writing."  This is particularly interesting to me as this is what Pink Truth is known for.  She goes on to say, " The articles I have read on this site have not cussed, belittled, or blatantly attacked." Not sure what site she has been reading, but that is all I ever see on Pink Truth, and the reason that I started this site in the first place.

Do You Want More From Mary Kay?
Oct 12th 2012, 11:00
Ick. Another propaganda piece to assure Mary Kay consultants that if they just pray enough and want it enough, they can be successful in Mary Kay. If they are not successful, they must not have had a high enough “deserve level” or they’re lazy losers (like us – LOL). Please respond to this ONLY if [...]
Why I don't understand what Pink Truth wants from Mary Kay.  When they (Mary Kay) talk in terms of 'ordering", Pink Truth complains about how no one is interested in selling Mary Kay.  When they suggest ways (albeit ways requiring *gasp* actual work) to sell product and get new clients, Pink Truth groans about how impossible the task seems and how these ideas are just ploys to make them look lazy.

What is your definition of lazy if not "unwilling to do work in order to see a result"?

When 99% of your “sales force” loses money with your business venture, you’ve got to believe that there’s something wrong with the system. If less than 1% of people are able to turn a profit, that suggests to me that the system is terribly messed up. Of course, I don’t expect that everyone who tries [...]

Age old "conundrum" Mary Kay says "order" more with no mention of "sell" more.  Is it assumed that people are selling and the directive to order more implies selling more, or does no one care about selling and are only interested in orders and commissions?

Mary Kay Offers 90% of Your Money Back
Oct 2nd 2012, 11:00
One of the “selling points” used to lure recruits into Mary Kay is the promise of being able to get 90% of your money back on your inventory. Indeed, a recent commenter touted this “benefit” of Mary Kay: A smart person will not invest more than 60% of their sales. How hard is that? Tracy [...]

1. I know this is similar to the "guns don't kill people" argument that has it's merits, but misses the point somewhat, but it is the first thought that always comes to my mind when I read things like this.  Mary Kay didn't ruin your marriage. There were fundamental flaws in your relationship that were exposed as a result of your marriage.
2. While I feel your pain, I am not sure I understand the merits of your "very public legal action".
