I would love to hear some of your thoughts on this.  Personally, I don't think that this would be an effective method to getting someone to change their mind from starting in August to starting in June.  I also think that even if it did "work", it would leave both individuals feeling 'icky'.

I don't think "dirtiiest" is a fair description though.  If you can't be honest with new recruits about why you want them to sign up now, wouldn't you be being deceptive... which is one of Pink Truth's biggest complaints...

  1. It seems like EVERYTHING that is posted is "the dirtiest" and "the most sickening," as if ANYthing MK does or promotes (or anyone affiliated with MK) is nefarious in intent. As long as you agree that anything or anyone in MK is terrible, great. Nevermind the inconsistencies of the people loudly proclaiming that standpoint or the ways that people who comment get taken apart, it's more important to chant "MK is evil."

    Honestly, I understand why people would be frustrated if suddenly their timeline to sign up would be viewed as "not soon enough." I would hope that, if it really WAS important to the recruiter, there would be a real discussion about that, rather than a set of canned sentences that SOUND rehearsed. The reason for using those could be because the recruiter gets nervous, has been trained that way, or ALWAYS uses that. It's hard to tell.

  2. You are absolutely right YoYoMe... Pink Truth is how you describe, yet they get all bent out of shape if people refer to them as negative... and by negative, I mean anything other than "pure truth". With the mindset they display there, it is no wonder that many of them had the problems they claim they had in Mary Kay. It does make you wonder what their recruiters and directors actually said though.

    As far as people being frustrated, I also agree with you, this tactic seems sketchy at best and downright manipulative at worst. If someone is not ready to sign up for a couple months, probably best to write it on your calendar and get in touch with them at that time. By respecting their lives, you would win more trust than you ever could sharing about your personal 'goal'. You will surely have a new goal by then anyway... or at least you should!

  3. I totally agree, Michelle. I have no problem with someone asking if moving up a start date would work; I'd rather know what types of pressures there are in DIQ, for example, and someone pursuing a directorship would be remiss if they didn't ask. At the same time, though, if it's been made clear that August (in this case) is the soonest someone can sign up because of personal circumstances, then it should be left alone.

    I've noticed, lately, that comments on the articles at PT have gotten really nasty. Of course, inflection is lost online or in print, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to detect the condescension and aggression that can be displayed toward anyone who is at best moderate in their criticism and, at worst, positive about anything in MK. Is it me, or have the nasty comments increased?

  4. Thanks YoYoMe, it is refreshing to talk to another person instead of just talking to myself (what it feels like when I am just posting, day after day, with no comments!).

    I don't really follow the comments on PT... I occasionally peek at them and they always seem venomous and pointless. If I could figure out a way to keep a life stream of their comments here (for the purpose of commenting further) I totally would!

    I know from reading on Balanced Mary Kay a lot that none of them are bold enough to 'speak out' when there is an actual impartial audience that can respond.

    I wish they would (whether here or there) participate, because I think that there are some good points being made... you just can't really see them because of all the chanting and noise!

    Anyway, not sure whether the comments are getting worse or not, but definitely appreciate your support here!

  5. Well, I am always good for a discussion here. I read everyday (often more than once!!) so thank you for keeping this going. I think it's important to root through chanting on BOTH sides, if only to make the experience more rewarding (and the business more ethical) on the one hand, and the healing for people who were taken advantage of by individuals within a company (whether it is MK, corporate America, or what-have-you) effective.

    (I should probably stop reading the comments. They generally just make me mad. . . Ha.)
